If you avoid fur, leather, feathers, and wool in your outerwear – you know winter coat shopping isn’t always the easiest. Just when you find a fur-less hooded coat – you find it’s 3% wool (a vegans lament!) Well, we are taking the guess work out of the job for you with an entire pinterest board devoted to our eco vegan winter outerwear finds! OBVIOUSLY — the greenest, most Eco-conscious coat is wearing the one you already own, swap from a friend, or vintage/ ebay/ used — but if your ethics land more towards animal-free fibers than landfills and overconsumerism — here are our current favorites for the coming chill.

Give off when- Twiggy- met- Holly Golightly in this faux sweetie. Often we take umbrance with faux fur – thinking it looks too authentic and sends a bad message — but with this baby and her pink fluffiness, it’s more kitsch than serious fur hag. Plus – never forget your NO FUR pin!

Are you more puffy coat than faux fur? This lightweight puffer has enough room underneath for sweaters and hoodies, and looks feminine – not bulky.

3 from Naketano — because we can’t actually decide which is the greatest as these coats are some of the warmest winter coats we’ve ever owned. And the details are endless — zippers, buttons, faux fur on the inside, special seams — places you’d never imagine. From a eco-vegan company in Germany. All available at zalando.co.uk priced between 110-150 pounds. More than worth the international shipping. UPDATE: NAKETANO IS NOW AVAILABLE STATESIDE ON AMAZON.COM – CLICK HERE FOR THE RANGE THEY OFFER FOR ORDER

Perfect for a night at the theater, or a casual date – this vegan fairtrade coat is a brilliant shape, with over-size lapels and with a slight cocoon shape, it is super-flattering and cozy.

River Island also has 3 vegan coats we are coveting. They aren’t overtly eco (meaning no organic materials or handmade using fair trade materials or small company ethics as far as we know) but they are vegan and well-priced. We love these 3;

  2. Claire says:

    Do you have any warm maternity coat recommendations?

    • Chloé Jo says:

      Hey Claire — First of all — CONGRATS! :)
      I’ve always (in my 3 pregnancies) gotten size L coats in a style that would suit a belly (swing/ big puffer etc) BUT — I do have a few suggestions on my Pregnancy board on my Pinterest page http://www.pinterest.com/girliegirlarmy. I love the maternity line HATCH, though I am sure any coat they have is most probably wool. While not eco – many coats you’ll find at the Old Navy, HM, Destination Maternity (read: Cheaper stores) will have wool-free accidentally vegan options. OR purchase an eco brand in a Large like I did. :)

    I am trying to find the Naketano Entertain My Pain coat but every site I locate it on doesn’t ship to the US. Is there any further info on if it will be available stateside again?

  6. Mia says:

    I ordered a Naketano jacket because of this article. I live in Canada, ordered on amazon US and had it delivered to my aunt’s trailer and she brought it up for me. It’s very warm, but absolute crap quality. Almost all of the buttons had to be re-sewn back on and the fabric tears so easily. I have so many tears on the jacket that I’ve had to sew together by hand and two new ones this year to do. I’m extremely disappointed about it. Had I known, I would have saved up for a Nau or a Vaute.

  7. Ranjani says:

    I’m helplessly on the search for ankle length vegan coats. Any leads?
