Whether you’re a parent, a parent-to-be, or just a lover of all things vegan, you’ve got to check out the latest must-have resource for those of us who care about all creatures of planet earth.

Veganism in 26 sentences—it doesn’t get simpler than this!

Ruby Roth, beloved GGA friend and author-illustrator of That’s Why We Don’t Eat Animals and Vegan Is Love, has a brand new book for a brand new generation!

Brightly-colored and written in hilarious rhymes, V Is for Vegan introduces the youngest of herbivores (honestly, adults, too) in this growing demographic to the ABCs of a compassionate lifestyle. Once again, Ruby brings her characteristic insight and good humor to the often challenging subjects of veganism and animal rights in the most easy-to-understand, teachable format yet. Through memorable rhymes and adorably simple illustrations, Roth covers the major vegan food groups, some “non-food” groups, and broader concepts such as animal protection and the environment. And unlike many vegan-ish kids books we get to review, this one is actually gorgeous, readable, and beautifully written and illustrated.  Certainly not written by a novice, this book is exquisite.

Buy them all, stat. Buy multiples for friends.  Buy one for your Grandma.  Donate one to your local library. Just support this brilliant beautiful woman and everything she does. (Vegan gossip note: her beau is the genius world renowned artist Justin Bua)

“Your kids will light up with laughter reading this book,” promises Ruby, “and it’s a great adult novelty item, too. Keep it on your coffee table, in your waiting room, or on your office desk for passers-by who won’t necessarily read Food Revolution, but might pick this one up for sheer entertainment!”

Sure to bring about laughter and learning, V Is for Vegan will boost the confidence of vegan kids about to enter school and help adults explain their ethical worldview in a way that kids will no doubt understand and remember. Just in time for back-to-school season!

  1. Linda Ocasio says:

Thank you for giving us beautiful tools to teach our children kindness and compassion for all beings.

  2. I bought Vegan is Love to read with my 5 year old, but I think he’s a little young – I changed some of the words. We’ll chat about cruelty when he’s a little older.

Since this one is geared to 3-7 year olds I think it will go over a little better :)

    • Leslie Carmona says:

My daughter is 18 months and I do the same with her. I change the words and skip some pages that are too sad or scary for her age. I suppose that’s easier to do when their as young as mine. :)

  3. Leslie Carmona says:

I am very excited to get this book for my daughter. She is 18 months and already enjoys “Vegan is Love” and “That’s Why We Don’t Eat Animals”. She is currently learning her ABCs, so the timing of “V is for Vegan” just couldn’t be better! Thank you to Ruby Roth for creating such wonderful books for vegan children!

  4. Jessica says:

I would love to win this for my boys! I have a 4 year old, 2 year old, and 2 week old. The older two love “Vegan is Love” and “That’s Why We Don’t Eat Animals”. My 4 year old was recently asked what his favorite animal was. His answer, “I don’t eat animals!” lol. And my 2 year old can’t stop talking about how he wants to pet a cow and how sad it is to see chickens in cages. Definitely need to set up a trip to a farm sanctuary…

  5. Chris says:

I’m really looking forward to checking this one out! We just got That’s Why We Don’t Eat Animals for our 5 year old and I’m sure he’d love this one too.

  6. Reese says:

What a great way to help all the little people in my life understand my choices in ways they can understand! I will also share it with the children that are in my art therapy groups!

  7. Sara says:

This would be great for my nephew!

  8. Trudy Seidel says:

I have twin 6 year old boys who are veg and it has been so hard finding them modern books that both educate and delight them!. Books shouldn’t be about scaring kids but should be about inspiring, delighting, exciting and guiding them- something Ruby Roth certainly knows how to do! My kids are proudly veg and love books that confirm their beliefs. Looking forward to this new one!

  9. Ms Soledad López-Agirre says:

It is deeply moving to come across when you are 42 the readings you needed as a young child, but still the ones you want to pass on to the future generations today. Thank you for your spelling out of my inner feelings.

  10. Arabella Bushnell says:

After being a vegan for 20 years the decision to raise my son vegan was a no brainer. Filling his book collection with great books that don’t have people eating dairy, eggs or animals was shockingly difficult. Thank you so much for writing books that clearly explains the struggle and abuse of animals with no lies or sugar coating.

  11. Frani says:

I know I’m too young to be thinking of parenting (I’m only 20) and raising vegan tots but I am deeply in love with Ruby’s work! Ever since I laid eyes on “That’s Why We Don’t Eat Animals,” I fell in love with the book. I’ve read it to my little sister and she loved it. I’ve told my friends about the book and they seemed intrigued. What I’ve got to say is that Ruby does a marvelous job for kids to know about animal rights and to respect animals for who they are and for their lives. Thank you for the work you do & I cannot wait to get “V is for Vegan” in my hands soon!

  12. Toni Marie says:
