The science is real and frightening. When the back of your cleaning products state words like “poison”, “corrosive” or “irritant” you bettah check yourself before you wreck yourself! Phthalates are endocrine disrupters associated with frightening reproductive effects, and that’s just one of MANY scary chemicals in your window cleaning spray.
So what’s a green girl to do? DIY!

Here are some recipes to get you started:
ALL-PURPOSE VINEGAR SPRAY
- 1 cup white distilled vinegar
- 1 cup water
Mix vinegar and water together in a spray bottle. Spray on desired surfaces and wipe away with a
clean cloth.
BETTER-THAN-BLEACH DISINFECTANT SPRAY
- 1:1 base recipe (All-Purpose Vinegar Spray)
- Hydrogen peroxide
Spray the 1:1 base recipe (All-Purpose Vinegar Spray) on the surface you’d like to clean, and then
wipe or scrub away. Spray hydrogen peroxide on the same surface, and then wipe or scrub away.
HEAVY-DUTY GLASS CLEANER
- 1⁄4 cup castile soap
- 1 quart water
Add the castile soap to the water and mix well. Spray on glass surface as needed and wipe dry.
GRANITE COUNTER CLEANER
- 1⁄8 cup vodka
- 1 cup water
- Drop of dish soap
- A few drops of essential oil of choice
Mix ingredients in a small spray bottle. Shake well before use.
ESSENTIAL SINK CLEANER
- 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar
- 1⁄4 cup baking soda
- 5 drops of your favorite essential oil
After cleaning the sink of any debris and wiping it down with water, wet the sink with the vinegar. Sprinkle on the baking soda and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. As you scrub the sink with your cloth, the baking soda and vinegar will form a paste. Afterward, be certain to rinse well to avoid leaving a residue.
