Making a perfect addition to our nighttime routine is Island Thyme‘s range of natural skin and face care products. We fell heavily in love with their Ginger Cardamom Lotion – which smells like a dream and gives a not-too-thick evening layer of moisture. Eliza and Chris Morris have been creating botanically-based skin and body care products in small batches from their farm and apothecary studio in the San Juan Islands of Washington for many years. Essential oils, wildcrafted herbs, distillate waters and natural emollients like Shea butter and Jojoba oil are just a few of the muses that guide their original recipes. Featuring excellent lip balm, toners, mists, soaps, and aromatherapy products – this line smells incredible and really works. It’s one to watch!

We’ve told you before how toxic traditional underarm deodorant is, and we are constantly updating you with our great natural finds. Here are two more to add to the list. Kill body odor without killing your body. Primal Pit Paste is handcrafted from organic and natural ingredients — so safe to your body, you could eat this stuff! But we suggest rubbing it on your smelly pits, not your morning toast. Both totally free of harmful aluminum and parabens. Hippy Pits deodorants are cruelty-free and use all vegan ingredients including Canadian Marine Glacial Clay which is full of micronutrients, and diatomaceous earth which traps stinky bacteria.

Green your teeth! Dr Sharp dentistry products are “earth-approved” and free of parabens, sls, fluoride, and alcohol – they contain xylitol instead of sugar and they are in BPA-free tubes and bottles. The line is PETA certified and created by Dr Sharp – a 4th generation Brazilian dentist practicing in Miami. The tubes are chic, and the kids flavor was approved by my picky crew.  It’s currently the only eco-friendly kids toothpaste actually developed by a dentist. The mouthwash is a particularly big hit – containing witch hazel, licorice, and sage with other natural extracts and soothing properties.

Green People certified organic products were driven by a mothers desire to help her daughter. When Charlotte Vøhtz’s young daughter Sandra was battling multiple skin allergies and eczema. She searched the high street for natural products that would be gentle on Sandra’s sensitive skin but found that many so-called natural skin care brands used almost entirely synthetic ingredients. Charlotte says, “From that moment, I realized that we all are children of the chemical age and that man-made chemicals found everywhere, combined with changing dietary habits, profoundly affect us all.” After seeing the misleading claims made by other beauty brands, Charlotte was determined to introduce regulation in an industry where you only need 1% of natural ingredients to call your products ‘natural’. She approached the Soil Association, the leading UK organization for organic certification, to encourage them to form standards for organic health and beauty products. With a promise to never use aggressive ingredients or synthetic chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, alcohol (ethanol) or synthetic fragrances or colorants in our products, and to never test on animals, Green People was born. With everything from skin to hair-care, this is a brand on our radar.  The fruitful nights night crème is a stand-out.

Nyme Organics is a mostly-baby line of products that only use ingredients you know— like olive oil, coconut oil, lavender, marshmallow, mandarin, cocoa butter and chamomile— and every one of them is Certified Organic and Certified Gluten-Free.  They handcraft all products in-house, in small batches.  And we trust these products so much that we still use them on our own kids. Stand outs for us? Bun glaze and the rubbit body oil. We found all these products to be awesome for grown ups too!

Deco Miami is a new and sexy nail lacquer range that is environmentally friendly; Deco’s bottles are smaller and is luxury grade, so a little bit of product goes a long way.  It’s free of 8 harmful ingredients typically found in nail polish, like formaldehyde, camphor, and DBP.  Their formula is also 100% vegan and cruelty-free, because “animal testing is pretty gross and archaic.” Plus the bottles are chic to display on a counter top!

Abba Hair Care is old school – 25 years of truly sulfate-free, gluten-free, vegan product that works – and doesn’t test on animals or contain freakish chemicals like phthalates and parabens. We really trust this line, and it works. The gel is perfect for my son’s ringlets, and the shampoos all smell beautiful.

Red Apple Lipstick has really turned out to be one of our favorite make up brands. Not only is it made in the USA and Mom n’ Pop owned and run, it’s gluten-free, paraben-free, and it’s gorgeous! The lipsticks are creamy and long-wearing, the glosses aren’t too sticky (plus- they taste and smell minty!,) and the eyelash palettes are brilliant.

Yes To! really make every product well. We’ve yet to find something from their range that isn’t nicely made and doesn’t do the job. Currently obsessed with their Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Facial Wipes which are perfect for a natural, lovely-smelling post-make up wipe off at the end of the day. The greatest thing about these products is they are available at any drug store and don’t break the bank. Negative? Some of the products score average on EWG, which we’d like to see the company try to change. Consensus: perfect in a bind, hoping for a cleaner formula in future.
