You will also get a chance to hear from Vote Mama 2020 candidates– Georgia State Senator-Elect Michelle Au, Gwinnett County School Board-Elect Karen Watkins, former Congressional candidate, Chris Bubser, and former Congressional candidate, Candace Valenzuela– who will share their experiences running for office.

For those of you who don’t know, Vote Mama is an organization that coaches, funds, and endorses progressive moms running for office up and down the ballot across the country. Since its launch, Vote Mama has helped more than 100 mom’s run for office with an over 40% win rate. This year they helped elect 19 new moms to office, 20% of which flipped their districts from red to blue and 44% which are women of color.

While we have a lot to celebrate, the work does not stop here and Vote Mama is already gearing up to implement an aggressive 2021-2022 strategy. It is important to remember that up until now women only made up 23% of Congressional Representatives and 25% of state legislatures nationwide, and that mothers with school-aged children still make up less than 5% of people in Congress.

That is why we hope you will join us on December 21st to support Vote Mama in continuing to pave the way for moms running for office, making sure more women are in the rooms where decisions are made. As Vote Mama’s Founder and CEO, Liuba Grechen Shirley, put it:

“We believe the success of our mission can be best measured not just by the number of moms who win their elections, but also by the normalization of moms and young women in positions of leadership and power. Our kids need to see running for office is just what mamas do.”
