Animal Rights Organization Hosts Star-Studded Evening to Support Legal Advocacy Efforts on Behalf of Farmed Animals

On Saturday, June 2, hundreds of high-profile leaders in the entertainment, business and philanthropic communities will gather in the Hollywood Hills for Mercy For Animals’ unforgettable Justice For All: A Night For Creatures Big and Small celebration.  If you’ve never attended a gala for a cause you care about, we cannot tell you how unbelievably important it is to be around like-minded individuals (even if just once a year) to celebrate advancements in the movement, not to mention the joy of partying with the fabulous and compassionate all with your (tax deductible) ticket price supporting something so much bigger than shmoozing.

Longtime animal activist, friend to GGA, actress and Bones star Emily Deschanel will be honored with the Compassionate Leadership Award for her outspoken work on behalf of farmed animals—including her leading support of Mercy For Animals’ campaign against McDonald’s cruel treatment of egg-laying hens, speaking out against the negative environmental impacts of animal agriculture, and hosting national farmed animal protection walks. Few superstars deserve accolades for their undying work for animals like Emily does.

Other guests include Rory Freedman, co-author of the bestselling book Skinny Bitch, Dr. Jenn Berman, host and lead therapist on VH1’s Couples Therapy, Steve-O, professional stunt performer and star of the hit MTV series Jackass, and others.

Go shmooze with these compassionistas!
Date: Saturday, June 2, 2012
Time: 6 pm VIP Champagne Cocktail Reception, 7 – 10 pm General Reception
Location: Private Estate of James Costa in the Hollywood Hills

Last year, the Compassionate Leadership Award was presented to Bob Barker at the Honoring Hidden Heroes celebration for his generous support of MFA’s hard-hitting undercover investigations at factory farms and slaughterhouses. This year’s event will spotlight MFA’s groundbreaking work to give farmed animals a much-needed voice in our legal system, as we seek to secure justice for all creatures.

Hosted by Lunch Hour Movie producer/ writer James Costa at his private estate in the Hollywood Hills, this exciting event will feature a VIP champagne cocktail reception, a silent auction, and a general reception with decadent vegan hors d’oeuvres and exquisite desserts provided by our favorite Los Angeles vegan restaurant Madeleine Bistro, along with organic wines and spirits.

Mercy For Animals is a national non-profit organization dedicated to preventing cruelty to farmed animals and promoting compassionate food choices and policies. MFA’s important legal advocacy initiatives have led to landmark criminal and civil prosecutions of factory farms, increased animal protection laws, the defeat of whistleblower-suppression bills, and policy changes that improve animal welfare and consumer protections.

“We are quickly approaching a tipping point in our society where the majority of Americans and our legal system are waking up to the reality that farmed animals deserve our respect and kindness,” says MFA’s Executive Director Nathan Runkle. “While there is still much work to be done, the days of cruelty to animals on factory farms are certainly numbered as campaigns to confront cruelty and inspire compassion continue to gain ground.”

Tickets to the celebration are $500 for the VIP Reception and $150 for the General Reception.
