Trends aren’t to be followed rigidly, but to give us inspiration to set a new palette for a new season. Sort of like a good sorbet, cleanse your fashion eyes every few months. Let the trends dictated by the fashion gods guide you into a fresh look for a new outlook each season. Luckily, everything hot for this fall is easy to come across in a vintage shop!
Here’s what we noticed on the runways and what you’ll be seeing in the stores:
Structured Silhouettes: This means sheath dresses, blazers, and pressed slacks. Even sweaters are slightly more fitted. There is a way to do this and not look like an 80’s stockbroker. See below;
(Deeper) Bright Colors: Richer neons. Brights in spite of cooling temperature. Perhaps a way to ward off winter malaise!
Polka dots: To avoid a fashion nightmare, do small dots and keep it simple everywhere else.
Color Blocking: Think a Mondrian for your body, color blocking is great to draw attention to the places you want people to look at.
Lace: Not like we don’t call lace a must for every season, it’s coming back very Stevie Nicks hard for fall 11. Wear it mixed with chunky knits and big boots. Our hearts belong to the Louisa shoe from Cri De Couer. Lace panels on a velvet shoe (available in eggplant or black,) all made ethically and vegan? If that isn’t a shoegasm, we don’t know what is..
Leather skirts: Or in our case, faux leather skirts! Making their way back from our early 90’s club kid regular get up in an endlessly more sophisticated way;
Other trends off the runway for this winter: plaids, tartans, high slitted skirts, long coats, long skirts, and wearing bloody tampons in your hair. Just kidding about that last part, just wanted to make sure you were still reading.
