There is something about white denim that invokes images of Ralph Lauren models in 1988, luxuriously strewn on yachts hugging Golden Retriever puppies. As much as our inner activist snubs our noses at such displays of disparate wealth, there is something truly gorgeous about those deep tans and Basinger good looks. This summer, rock your white denim at the community meeting or protest, and shake things up!
Eek laissez faire ‘tude with a pair of sunbaked white jeans. Sharkah Chakra just launched the first ever white jean to be made totally organically and without bleach! They get this pure white finish by baking the denim in the sun naturally in the foothills of India.

Give your favorite beat-up jeans a day off by trying a pair in white instead. Courtney Colavita from men.style.com gives her tips on choosing white denim;
- Cut: Avoid any jeans that could be referred to as tighty whities. They should skim your legs-not constrict them.
- Inseam: A little extra length is fine as long as it doesn’t result in too much bunching around the ankles.
- Stitching: These jeans are best left as a blank canvas. The less obvious the back-pocket detailing the better.
- Pockets: You’re already circumventing tradition by wearing white jeans. Stick with the basic five-pocket model.
- Color: Unlike your blue jeans, which look better the more you wear them, white jeans require a high standard of maintenance. Remember, they should be white, not beige. Learn about eco-friendly ways to bleach your jeans here.
- How to Wear Them: Stefano Gabbana, one half of the duo behind Dolce & Gabbana and D&G, says that white jeans aren’t “difficult to comprehend,” since they’re a variation on an article of clothing every guy is familiar with. Guys: Pair them with a trim polo and (faux) leather belt for a polished, fuss-free look. Gals: A simple tank top, flip flops, and gold hoops complete’s this look faster than you can say “Muffy, darling, hand me an olive.”
