Donate Your Old Tee Shirts For A Good Cause

Are your kids’ closets overflowing with bar-mitzvah and camp tees from the last three years – but you just can’t bring yourself to throw ‘em out? We just happen to know a school full of kids in Honduras who would love them! Keep reading for details: As you know, there are still thousands of migrant children being held in US detention centers.  Many of these children travel from oft-forgotten Honduras which is one of the most violent countries in the world.  With almost 70% of the country living in poverty, citizens are plagued by endemic levels of crime and extreme violence which has created extremely dangerous conditions, just for existing.

At just three years old, the Foundation for Education in Honduras is attempting to give kids, families, and entire communities a chance – through education.  FEIH rebuilds decrepit schools in the most impoverished areas of an already struggling country.  FEIH partially determines which schools to help  by the amount of community involvement offered. 25% of local labor to build the school must be volunteered by members of the community. Further – all supplies including desks, uniforms, writing instruments, are sourced through local Honduran businesses to promote economic growth. This approach ensures continued community cultivation – ensuring a safe, productive educational environment is provided for many years.  And to provide opportunities for children and families to happily remain in their home country.

GGA friend, actress, philanthropist, and contributor Felicia Greenfield and her daughter Morgan will be traveling to La Ceiba next week to celebrate the opening of FEIH’s seventh school.  They have challenged GGA to help them get a donation of 100 gently-used, children’s T-shirts to disseminate to the students & community children.  Although FEIH provides uniforms, having new colorful camisetas for the weekend would be tremendously exciting for these niños who have almost nothing.  Shirts should be preferably children’s sized – a variety of elementary school sizes (ages 6-12) are welcome.
