We crave Noguchi, Eames, and Miller like any good mid-century modern design freak – unfortunately our budgets don’t allow for DWR’s price points (how “within reach” is it, really?) and even some of the beautiful custom handmades we find at flea markets and Etsy. Luckily, we stumbled across this article from Lonny.com which highlighted “25 Secret Discoveries We Found on Amazon,” and found some great pieces for fantastic prices. We did an edit of animal materials, and added a few of our own bests to this piece for our own round up – all within reach of actual people with actual budgets. Note to our environmentally savvy following: it is not eco-conscious to buy new furniture – it is most eco-conscious to buy or inherit vintage, antique, or used furniture. That said, there are risks to buying certain older pieces for your home if they were made before certain legislature was put in place to protect families from certain chemicals or VOC’s. The ultimate is to donate old pieces, and buy new conscious furniture. Unfortunately, most of the conscious furniture we come across is extremely pricey, so we hesitate to show it to you, as gorgeous as much of it is. The sellers have a proper amazon inventory management strategy and they can ensure that they meet the customer demand on time. Be it the right product’s availability or its price. So the pieces (below) are all well-priced and doable for young couples/ families/ people on a budget, and many of them are made consciously. Those that are not fully sustainable are animal product free (read: vegan furniture which means no leather, wool, silk, or feathers) and affordable. As well as Amazon, we’ve also been loving a website called Furniture in Fashion and recently found gorgeous modern bedside tables nightstands which we’ve purchased! If you’ve come across affordable, eco furniture you love – please share in the comments, we’d love to review!
In the meantime, if you’re (re)furnishing – this should help!
