Bernie’s Mittens Aren’t for Sale—but PETA’s Are!

The creator of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ inauguration mittens is warning thousands of would-be buyers that they’re not for sale—so PETA is stepping in with its own 100% vegan spin on the viral winter wear, now available for preorder from the PETA Shop.

PETA’s special-edition vegan mittens, which—as opposed to wool mittens like Sen. Sanders’—spare sheep immense suffering. PETA and its affiliates have released 14 exposés of the global wool industry revealing that workers beat, punch, kick, mutilate, and even kill sheep in shearing sheds. PETA is sending Sen. Sanders a pair of its vegan mittens, too, in the hope that he’ll set a compassionate new trend!

“PETA is once again asking kind shoppers to choose cruelty-free outerwear,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “When it comes to feeling pain and suffering, a sheep is no different from a human—so wool-free mittens are a wonderful way to put ‘Not Me. Us.’ into practice.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. All profits from merchandise sales go directly toward supporting the group’s vital work for animals.
