Just keep riding passengers around NYC til you drop dead because a bunch of tourists are dying to live out some antiquated fantasy at the expense of your life.
We can do something to end the inhumane treatment of NYC carriage horses. We’re going to need to show our elected officials that we mean business, and that means showing our strength in numbers right now. Help StopHorseAbuse.com reach 30K signers by St. Patrick’s Day – sign this petition to end the abuse, and please share this link on all your social networks.
You know the situation: Carriage horses working in New York die far earlier, and suffer much more than normal horses due to abuse. The conditions in which the carriage horses live and work are inhumane and simply unacceptable. You all know it’s time to phase out the horse carriages, and replace them with replica classic cars that are good for the environment, fun for tourists, and most importantly, end the abuse of horses in NYC. I know it can be done, and we have the power to make it happen. Also, consider volunteering (wherever you live) to support this most worthy cause.
Lea Michelle (of “Glee”) agrees:
Personal note from our Editor; I know these drivers like to pretend that they love their horses like family. Here’s a good example of their true natures: I recently tsk tsk’ed a horse carriage driver on Fifth Avenue while pregnant. Instead of flipping me the bird or ignoring me – this driver said the most hideous, hateful, vicious, repulsive things you could ever say to a woman… let alone a PREGNANT woman. I wouldn’t dare even repeat them to the most foul mouthed friend I have. If he spoke to me like that (oh, did I mention he had a family with children in his carriage?!) you can only imagine how he treats his horse. ‘Nuff said.
