Organic Tee’s for Our Favorite Shorties

Finding a truly great t-shirt is not always as easy as digging through Mom’s closet and unearthing her brilliant vintage Hendrix concert tee.   Occasionally such finds do happen; Chloe Jo found her Mom’s jean jacket from Woodstock in one teenage closet raid, and Ariela still can’t give up her shredded “Show me your riffs!” Sleater-Kinney shirt found at Value Village in Atlanta for $4.   But let’s be real here, those finds are rare and to be treasured in a time where smart gals n’ gents (you know who you are!) snag all the great true vintage they can find, in small towns across America, and re-sell it at their boutiques and on ebay for twenty times the original price.   Most of our local thrift stores are way pilfered by hungry and broke hipsters, and we’ll be damned if we wear last season’s Urban Outfitters “Everybody loves a Jewish Girl” tee one more time.

You can find cute vintage tees like this one on etsy.com or ebay.com if you scour regularly.

That said, it’s time to shop! Most t-shirts end up making us feel boxy instead of sexy, and itchy and uncomfortable rather than cozy and casual. Then there’s the material – we’d rather some earth friendly organic cotton than some crazy, toxic fabrics whose names we can’t even pronounce.   We’ll pass on the weird rashes, thank you very much cheapy stores.   Obviously, the ultimate tee is found at a thrift store (cuttin’ down our over the top consumerism is always a good move) and costs less than a cheap burrito, but once you’ve tried on a good, organic cotton tee that feels like lube on your skin, you’ll realize it’s worth the occasional splurge/ investment.   Many earth loving companies have some seriously sassy tees that tout the perfect mixture of sexy, eco and comfortable. Who says you have to be in a spring break wet t-shirt contest to look sexy in a plain and simple tee (not that we’re stopping you from gettin’ a little crazy in Cabo Wabo).

Check out a few of our current faves;

Nothing like a simply sexy tee with some elegant flair to make you feel like a vixen whether you’re out exploring the city streets or hittin’ up a rooftop soiree. Plus we like it even more because it’s 100% organic. We could wear this thang every day.

'Orphan Collection' by Thatdo Zonndi, $38 @ commonthreadz.org

This tee is not only beautiful, and printed on eco friendly prima cotton, it was also designed by an orphan in Africa. Buying just this one tee will feed an orphan for an entire month. We think this is a win, win, win situation.

Prairie Underground organic "Why Not Mini?" Dress, $88 @ Tobi.com

Did they rock out in organic cotton in the 80’s? We think they should of. Especially in this bright yellow tee/ mini dress which you could easily dress up or down, it’s totally bangin’.

Say it slowly now..”envy-row-mental”…get it?! This slouchy, but still uber sexy tee is a nice alternative to the endless selection of recycle sign t-shirts that have hit every store from Target to Juicy Couture. Not to mention that it’s 100% fair trade certified and made solely from organic cotton.

Why not look cute and sport a message for a cause you are passionate about?   So when they ask you about your Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary Tee-shirt you can tell them that it’s place where visitors can come face to face with animals most only known as “dinner” to learn about the devastating effects of modern-day agribusiness on the animals, the environment and human health.   Talk about a conversation starter!
