The Vegan Father’s Day Gift Guide

In case you didn’t know, Father’s Day is NEXT SUNDAY (June 16th).  Ashlee Piper of The Little Foxes has you covered with compassionate prezzie ideas that won’t break the bank or any animals necks.

If you’re behind on getting that perfect gift, cool it – I’ve GOT YOU. Here’s a little gift guide I whipped up with some fun, animal-friendly, stylish gifts that any gent would like. The man you’re celebrating doesn’t have to be vegan. Heck, he doesn’t even have to be a real father (dog dads count, especially shelter dog dads). Use this gift guide as an excuse to fete the good men in your life, even if it’s just with some sweet smellin’ (cruelty-free) cologne. If you do have a real human baby with the gentleman in question, this card is always a hit:

PS – This is my Dad and I love him. He’s super cool. He also does the BEST Axl Rose impersonation the world has ever seen. Just hand the man a bandana and it’s ON.

i heart you, dad!

(1) LululemonThe (Big) Mat – $88: Whether your guy is in to yoga, Crossfit, or triathlons, everyone can appreciate Lululemon’s finest, sweat absorbing, supremely cushioning mat. As an avid hot and non-heated yogi, I can vouch for the essentialness of this mat. It boasts two sides (one for hot yoga, the other for unheated), is made from natural rubber, and has an antimicrobial coating to prevent mold and mildew. They finally made a bigger version and at 84″ long x 29″ wide, this bad boy can accommodate the guy who wants to have ample space to stretch.

(2) SproutST/3801BKOL Watch – $65: This watch looks rugged, sporty, and stylish, but hides an environment-loving secret. This water resistant timepiece is made from corn resin and uses a mercury-free battery. And, makes an affordable gift.

(3) Matt & NatPhoenix Bag in Grey – $165: This all-vegan pebbled faux leather briefcase boasts handy compartments and can be worn two ways (for the bike, bus, or car commuter). In grand Matt & Nat fashion, this handsome bag also has a lining made from recycled nylon. Sturdy enough to hold his laptop, tablet, phone, files, comic books, lunch, and whatever else “he” carries around.

(4) Sam’s NaturalSimple Start Kit – $32.95: I am kind of obsessed with this badass company with a conscience. Check out their impressive “About Us” page, and you’ll see that they’re vegan, cruelty-free, palm oil-, soy-, and heavy metals-free, PETA-certified, made in America (by happy workers, to boot), and give back to charities like the Buffalo Field Campaign. The products are kitschy-cute and effective, and your guy will like them (there’s not a stitch of pink on the bottles). Plus, they have an amazing array of ingenious kits for everyone from the new dad to guys with greasy jobs. Truth be told, I want to be one of Sam’s Natural’s happy workers (call me).

(5) Uncommon GoodsStone Drink Dispenser – $125: Now, I’m not calling your dad a drunk, but I have a hunch he just might love this. Why? Because I would love this. To dispense more than just liquor (think how cool your home brew, sparkling lemonade, and other yumminess would be in this). And, what’s more, it’s a conversation starter. It’s handcrafted from cobbled granite by a New Hampshire artisan. I’ll drink to that!

(6) Amazon.com – Roberto Martin’s Vegan Cooking for Carnivores – $20.81: While I appreciate a healthy recipe, I also think the world could use some comforting vegan recipes that satisfy former or in-transition carnivores. Martin is a Culinary Institute of America-trained chef, as well as personal chef to Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, and he shares 125 stick-to-your-ribs recipes like Avocado Reuben, Red Beans and Rice, “Chick’n” Pot Pie, and Chocolate Cheesecake. Warning: Could inspire the men in your life to cook for you.

(7) Tom’sEarthwise Slate Men’s Classics – $54: Even if your dad or hubby is all Brooks Brothers all the time, a pair of vegan Tom’s will still go over well because they’re FREAKING COZY. They’re lightweight, easy to slip on, snuggly, and presentable enough to wear in public. Even if your dad says, “Agh, that’s hippie stuff,” you’ll soon find him wearing them to get the paper (do people do that anymore, btw?) and then living in them. And per Tom’s mission, one pair bought gives a child in-need in a developing country a pair.

(8) Le LaboOUD 27 Cologne – $145 for 50 ml: This cruelty-free, vegan bespoke unisex cologne is pretty luxe. Described as an Oriental fragrance that according to the website is a cross between “Genghis Khan meets Shah Jahan for tea with Scheherazade” (dang). Exotics like Agarwood, Cedar Atlas, Incense, Patchouli, Black Pepper, Safran, and Gaïac (and 20 more) make this a mysterious and exotic departure from whatever Davidoff Cool Water or Abercrombie + Fitch bullshit he’s wearing now.

(9) Jaan J.Cotton Tie – $39.50: In a world where silk ties are the norm, this handsomely printed cotton tie is a cruelty-free stand out. Perfect for warmer weather and if this print is too busy for ya, there are dozens of other more traditional styles to choose from. The silkworms will thank you.

(10) Fetch EyewearCharlie Eyeglasses in Basalt – $125: In a world of hipster glasses, Fetch stands out. Why? Because 100% of their profits go to benefit The Pixie Project, which supports animal rescue and adoption (to date, they’ve completed over 3,000 successful adoptions). And because the wide selection of frames and styles have a lifetime warranty. Think getting Dad these super sexy prescription Clark Kent’s is a little weird? No worries, they have uber-cool sunglasses, too (for $85). Woot!

What are you going to get for the dudes in your life this Father’s Day?
