Do you know that a green lifestyle doesn’t not stop at your girl parts? Yep, that’s right you can have an eco-friendly period – it’s simply. Just by making some small, small switches you can take your footprint from really, really high to a little bit smaller.

For example, did you know the average woman uses 17,000 tampons and pads in her lifetime? That’s insane, that takes a hundred years to decompose in a landfill. It is estimated that approximately 20 billion pads, tampons and applicators are being sent to North American landfills annually. You can do better – because I’m going to show you what you can do in a few small steps.

It’s time to detox your box!

How to Have an Eco-Friendly Period

Let’s start with cloth pads, which really are a revelation once you get used to them. So soft, comfy, organic so much better than those traditional plastic pads which leak all kinds of yucky chemicals and dioxin into your system, you don’t need that. These are great they’re fantastic I use them, I like them. They also have a panty which has a built in soft liner for sleeping.

WHY SWITCH?

Disposable pads, tampons, and light bladder leakage products can contain dioxins, pesticide residues, and adhesive chemicals.

All right, if you’re not going to do that – what about your tampon? You still use those right, well what about the Diva Cup? So many of our girls swear by it.  The Diva Cup’s great because it’s just like a tampon. It goes in, it catches the blood, you dump it out. It’s safe. It’s good for you; it’s good for the planet, no waste. It might feel extreme at first, but I promise you. You’re going to get used to it. I did, and you will too.

If you’re super nervous about making the switch – start with changing your current tampon. Just from taking you’re traditional tampon and switching into the more compact applicator makes a big difference. First of all, you’re getting rid of the plastic. Second of all these come in organic options, so you don’t have the dioxin that comes with traditional cotton tampons. And third of all, a lot less waste and plastic in your hoo-ha.  These are 100% Organic Cotton, Plastic-Free, Chlorine-Free, and contain No Rayon.

It’s a smaller step to switch to organic traditional tampons, but a great step environmentally.  Cloth pads are a super green step, this is the smaller step, and I know you can do it. In fact, I still switch from one to the other depending on what’s going on. For example, I find cloth pads easy at home, but on the go I tend to go for an organic tampon or divacup.  Try out the different options, you’ll find the routine that works for your lunar life.  Do it with me, sisters, we can make green choices even in our periods.
