Sayonara Stretch Marks

Published on July 8, 2012 by   ·   4 Comments

Whether you are a 15 year old supermodel or a forty plus year old Mother of many, you probably have some stretch marks somewhere.  And while these beautiful warrior lines may be rejoiced by some ancient cultures, our current culture deems them something that has to go or fade.. and fast.  And while we are all about embracing having them (because they are impossible not to have, so we may as well accept them) why not try to fade them with natural cremes and oils if we can?

Though mainstream talked-about potions like Mederma and Bio-Oil do work, they are far from natural and contain chemicals you may want to avoid – especially if pregnant or breastfeeding.

Here are our favorites that are perfectly safe, made ethically, and work just as well;

The oils from Tata Harper and Duchess Marden smell truly heavenly and feel like a treat when going on.   Mama Mio’s entire line is devoted to safe (and cruelty-free) pre and post pregnancy care.  With products like Boob Tube Bust & Neck Firmer, Lucky Legs Cooling Serum, and Get Waisted Body Shaper – these products are especially made for this time in your life (and beyond) when your body completely changes and is (let’s be honest) never the same again.  The Mama Mio range feels and smells delicious and are used regularly at casa de Girlie.  Other less expensive options are using a basic body butter or coconut oil (yes, even the kind you cook with works.)  The gist is to keep the skin supple as it grows, though nothing can entirely wipe out stretch marks other than surgery.   If you are pregnant, don’t forget to constantly moisturize the parts of your body that aren’t obviously growing (but do!) like your lower back (aka your muffin,) upper and lower thighs, breasts, and upper arms.  These parts can shift too as your body moves and grows.

    I’ve got them, and I don’t give a hoot.. because I have my gorgeous son and another on the way to show for it! But I do attempt to combat them with these types of products. Cruelty free and all natural cures are top of the list for me, but I have tried Mederma in the past. When you are a Mom stretch marks are barely of note when you have your beautiful child to gaze upon.

    The Tata Harper oil is mindblowing. I’d rather not eat and use this stuff.. that’s how delish it is!

  3. Eden Di Bianco says:

    Huge fan of that Jason oil! It’s great for scars as well.
    Argan oil is also good for hair (absorbs fast & well), and for use as a facial oil!

    Have tried the Tata Harper moisturizer, her stuff is pricey but is def niiiiiiice. Tres Bell spa in Brooklyn uses her stuff for facials, highly suggest.

    My go to has always been pure cocoa and shea butters; I’m a weight yo-yo ‘er and cocoa butter is a lifesaver.

    I haven’t tried these but I did use Burt Bee Mama Butter.
