A Sweater Made Out Of Tofu??
Published on October 21, 2009 by chloejo · 4 CommentsMade from the unused protein of soybean oil, tofu and soymilk, this new fabric turns waste into a yarn that possesses cashmere characteristics. The pros? “Tofu Cashmere” is incredibly soft and durable. Knit wear designers “KnitWit” debuted this fabric recently, and we were all excited… only to find out that the fabric is not JUST made from tofu, it contains 15% Cashmere (85% Soybean,) which makes these sweaters not entirely eco (duh, using animals in production is never green,) and certainly not cruelty-free. Bummer. Hopefully some truly ethical designers will catch wind of this fabric stat, and make us some luxe, gorge sweaters sans the cashmere. FYI, Cashmere is wool from the Kashmir or Cashmere goat.
